Class Projects

During our class meeting at the 25th Reunion, the class has designated the new Visual Arts Center (VAC) as the target of our next Class Project/Gift. We decided we would like to have something physical on campus with our class name attached to it…somewhere where our grandchildren can visit and say “My poppa/granny was in the Class of ’85!”

During our 25th Reunion Weekend, Margaret Marder, Valerie Hartman Levy, and Linda Blockus met with Jennifer Casey (Class Activities, Alumni Affairs) and John Scherding (Associate Director of Planning, Design and Construction) to talk about opportunities with the new Visual Arts Center. There are a number of exciting options for us to make a very visible donation!

We need you! We would like to raise enough money over the next few years (in time for our 30th Reunion) to sponsor a gallery space or purchase a large visual display (like a large flat screen assemblage) that can be used for photographic work or other digital media projects. We are aiming to find a space that will be utilized by students and seen by students (for example, near one of the main entrances). If you are interested in becoming involved in this project and joining the committee, please contact Class Project Chair Linda Blockus (BlockusL@gmail.com). We are seeking those who wish to help raise funds as well as those with an interest in the visual arts, both professional and personal.

For more information on the Visual Art Center go see this article in Dartmouth Life and this one in The Dartmouth.

Before our 25th Reunion we sponsored the work of a group of Dartmouth alumni creating a book and movie about the history of Dartmouth skiing entitled, Passion For Skiing. The book is a wonderful history of Dartmouth's involvement in the ski industry, and a movie along the same lines is in the works More information at www.PassionForSkiing.com.

As a Class Project we sponsored high school students in the Tucker Foundation-led Summer Enrichment At Dartmouth (SEAD) program. SEAD offers an exciting and challenging multi-year enrichment experience for pre-college teens from under-resourced urban and rural high schools. Based on the Dartmouth College campus during the summer term, the program brings together college and community resources to provide a unique opportunity for growth for all involved.

We also have a Class Memorial Fund to acknowledge the death of any of our classmates.
