In 1940s Washington, D.C., Fanny Farrelly is expecting the arrival of her daughter Sara, Sara’s German husband Kurt, and their children who have fled Europe due to Kurt’s role in the anti-Nazi resistance movement. When a Nazi-supporter houseguest discovers Kurt’s identity, he threatens to expose him. Published in 1941 by activist Lillian Hellman, Watch on the Rhine is a timely examination of moral obligation and sacrifice.

Now Dartmouth alumni, family and friends have the exclusive opportunity to experience this groundbreaking play at Minneapolis’s Guthrie Theater with Brett Gamboa, assistant professor of English. A director and scholar, Professor Gamboa specializes in theory and performance, and will provide a thought-provoking commentary on the play before the show. A buffet dinner with hosted bar will also be served.
