Days To Go!
Hope You Enjoyed Reunion!

While our reunion this year will technically be virtual, there will be nothing virtual about the real reconnecting and socializing we’ll enjoy with classmates familiar, long-lost, and newly met. Your reunion committee has planned a carefully curated set of events to complement those that the College has planned, including some time to share with our friends in the Class of 1986.

Along with the College-organized programming, we’re planning sessions to appeal to everyone.

Reunion kicks off Thursday night with a College-sponsored Great Issues session with Rembert Browne ’09. Writer and Creative Lead at Twitter, Rembert Browne joins Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Joshua Bennett for a conversation about the challenges of storytelling via new media in the age of instantaneous communication.

A President’s Reception follows at 9 M. Join 18th Dartmouth President Philip J. Hanlon as he delivers a welcome address to all participants celebrating a virtual class reunion and updates us on the State of the College. All are welcome.

Friday night (or whatever time 8:30 Eastern US is for you) kicks off with a Dance Party! Let’s show the ‘86s we can still show them up on the dance floor! Thirty minutes should be all we need, or can handle, because then it’s off to our own evening’s entertainment at the DartMOTH Radio Hour. Our take on the NPR radio show, it will feature entertaining stories and adventures from our classmates. Make yourself cozy and enjoy.

Saturday morning there’s time to get together with friends from Greeks, clubs, arts groups, sports teams, FSP, LSA, Dorms, and more. Check the Reunion page for a list, and let us know if there’s a group for which you’d like to arrange a breakout room. At noon, we’ll have our Class Meeting and elect a slate of officers and discuss class business like Class Projects.

Saturday afternoon brings a special panel discussion on the Future of Higher Education. We’re honored to have our incoming Trustee and classmate Joyce A. Sackey M.D., Reunion Chair and Manager of Learning and Organizational Quality Beth Parish, Ed.D., and Emily Saltzmann Hoffner along with Dr. Joshua Kim, Director of Online Programs and Strategy and a Senior Fellow for Academic Transformation, Learning, and Design at the Center for New Designs in Learning & Scholarship (CNDLS) at Georgetown University.  They will discuss issues facing higher education including diversity, free speech, affordability, and more.

Saturday night’s alright for fighting! Fighting for Team Trivia supremacy, that is. Join in with the ‘86s for a fun evening of professionally run Team Trivia competition.

On Sunday morning at 11 AM, there will be a memorial service arranged by the College. We’re still waiting on details, so check the Reunion page for registration info. We lost a number of classmates this year and this will be a nice chance to remember them together, as well as those who left us since we graduated.

And watch your email for any local in-person gatherings that might be organized to Zoom-in together, and even more content to enjoy.
Class Ambassadors Needed!

Want to help organize small Regional Viewing Gatherings for our upcoming 35th Reunion? In a backyard? Local park? On a beach? Our 35th Reunion may be virtual but that doesn't mean we can't still connect and gather. With vaccinations and warmer weather, thinking it would be wonderful for '85s throughout the world to gather in small groups to view/participate in some of the awesome virtual events planned for our 35th Reunion in June.

We're here to help with your planning (contact info, ideas, graphics, etc.). Please contact our Mini-Reunion Chairs ( Valerie Hartman '85 and/or Todd Cranford '85) to let us know you're gathering and how we can help. THANKS!!!!

And please, stay strong/safe/healthy!

Valerie and Todd
